General Hospital spoilers reveal that Steve Burton, who plays Jason Morgan, recently opened up about soap couples.
While discussing soap supercouples, Burton admitted that his most famous soap pairing was not mean to be a romance at all.
The show didn’t intend for Jason and Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) to be in a romance, let alone become the huge supercouple that they became.
Steve Burton Talks Chemistry
On Sunday, April 5 Steve and Bradford Anderson’s (Damien Spinelli) discussed soap couples on their That’s Awesome podcast.
Anderson mentioned chemistry between Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) and Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) and how fans had notice when the show puts people together to check their chemistry.
Dante and Elizabeth could be headed for a romance. After all, Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins) isn’t exactly into Dante right now.
Burton mentioned that over the years he had been chemistry tested with many actresses. In all honesty, Burton amids, these tests could ultimately make or break a couple.
That Is How They Determine These Things
Burton explained that you never know how things are going to turn out and that is why they conduct chemistry tests.
This bring Burton to the subject of Sam and Jason. Of course, this has been mentioned by Burton before, but Sam and Jason were never meant to be a couple.
Jason was Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) fixer and he was suppose to deal with Sam and move on.
Jason tried to get Sam to leave town, offered her a million dollars to do so but that didn’t work and when Sam got pregnant, things changed.
Jason and Sam were together for an extended amount of time because he was taking care of her and pretending to be her baby’s father. Fans saw that chemistry and ran with it.
Let’s Look At Sam And Jason’s Romance
Sam and Jason’s romance was a slow burn. Luckily the executives in charge of the show at the time allowed them to pace the romance.
Jason fell in love with Sam as he was falling in love with her baby. Unfortunately, Sam had a placenta abruption which caused her to lose her daughter and Sam almost died herself.
Jason and Sam continued to fall for each other and grew closer as they continued to live together. Sam and Jason were together from 2004 to 2006 before breaking up.
Sam and Jason reunited in 2009 and were together until Jason was kidnapped in 2012 when Burton left the show.
Unfortunately, Sam and Jason were never truly back together afterward. However, this was the best non planned supercouple ever.
