Lock up your valuables and hide your hearts, Port Charles, the resident Australian grifter is coming home.
In news that has sent the General Hospital fandom into a collective tizzy today, Nathan Dean (formerly known to fans as Nathan Parsons) has officially been confirmed to reprise his role as Ethan Lovett.
After years of fans screaming into the Twitter void and settling for a brief 2023 recast that didn’t quite hit the mark, the “real” Ethan is back.
Executive Producer Frank Valentini dropped the bombshell this morning, confirming that Dean is already on set and filming scenes slated to air in April 2026
Why This Return Actually Matters
General Hospital has been a bit light on that classic Spencer charm lately. With the heartbreaking passing of the legendary Anthony Geary (Luke Spencer) late last year, the canvas has felt the void of that specific brand of “charming rogue” energy.
As the biological son of the incomparable Holly Sutton (Emma Samms), Ethan carries the DNA of the show’s most adventurous era.
Nathan Dean originated the role in 2009, and despite his long absences to star in shows like Roswell, New Mexico and The Originals, he remains the definitive face of the character.
What We Know About Ethan’s Return
While the writers are keeping the specific plot points under a heavy-duty vault door, Valentini teased a “major storyline” that involves “twists no one will see coming.”
Here is what we can speculate based on the current state of Port Charles:
The TV Cave’s Take
Look, we’ve seen enough “returns” that end up being three episodes and a funeral to stay cautiously optimistic. However, Nathan Dean has a chemistry with the cast that you simply can’t manufacture. Whether he’s running a con at the Metro Court or getting caught in a shootout on a remote island.
However, there are different characters we would love to see back, Spencer Cassadine and the Cassadine family comes to mind.
What do you think, GH fans? Are you thrilled to see Nathan Dean back in the role, or were you hoping for a fresh face? Let us know in the comments!
