Janelle Brown speaks out to confirm that there was “no secret agreement” whatsoever with her ex-husband Kody Brown regarding the Coyote Pass real estate transaction.
Sister Wives’ star Janelle Brown insisted in an E! News exclusive preview of the show’s Jan. 18 One-on-One special that there was “no backdoor deal” with ex Kody Brown to sell Coyote Pass home.
Janelle Brown is defending herself once more.
The Sister Wives star rejected the idea that she had a “backdoor deal” to sell Coyote Pass—the 14-acre Arizona property she, ex Kody Brown, Robyn Brown, Christine Brown and Meri Brown purchased in 2018—amid a myriad of setbacks the family faced.
“There was no backdoor deal,” Janelle reiterated to host Sukanya Krishnan in an E! News exclusive preview of the TLC show’s One-on-One special airing Jan. 18. “There wasn’t. There was no backdoor deal. We were talking about ways to get the thing done.”
Instead, the 56-year-old accused Robyn, who is the only one of the four sister wives still married to Kody, of delaying the original sale by allegedly asking everyone to sign NDAs at the last minute. As Janelle put it, “Robyn had thrown this big rock.”
Though the original buyer did come back to purchase the property after the first deal expired, Janelle said it was an overall difficult process—made more so by Kody and Meri, who she alleged spent “a lot of time of just no communication.”
“I would call Kody every once in a while and text Meri once in a while and say like, ‘Guys, we have a ticking clock here. This is gonna expire in 60 days,’” she recounted. “And they would be like, ‘Yeah, we’re working on it.’”
Janelle continued, “It was like a big waiting game.”
But Robyn had a different take on the situation.
TLC“Janelle was getting impatient,” she explained, saying that Kody had told her that he and Janelle were “talking about a backdoor deal where they sell the property out from under Meri.”
The 47-year-old said she pushed back on Janelle because she felt Meri—Kody’s first wife—was “in a very precarious situation” and wanted to make sure the sale was fair to all parties involved.
Coyote Pass was ultimately sold for $1.5 million in 2025. And, according to Kody, it was quite the challenge to finally part ways with the property.
“I was getting frustrated enough to just sell the property,” the father of 18 said on the Jan. 11 episode of One-on-One, “and then I’ll distribute money at my convenience.”
He also accused Janelle of approaching him to sell the property without Meri’s approval, alleging that she “just wanted to be paid.”

However, Janelle denied Kody’s allegations, saying that they only spoke about how her lawyers had encouraged getting the initial sale to go through.
“I told Kody that I had been advised that,” she explained, “but that I really wanted to try to get this to work out.”
As for Meri, she felt as though she was being overlooked and silenced during the drama.
“They didn’t want me to talk and I could not figure out why,” the 54-year-old recalled. “So, when they say, ‘Meri was stopping it, Meri was stopping it,’ damn right I was. Because I’m not f–king going to be silenced again.”
