Janelle Brown denies teaming up with Meri Brown against Robyn Brown – and playing “girl games” – in the first of four Sister Wives: 1-on-1 reunion specials.
“What girl games?” Janelle, 56, asks reunion host Sukanya Krishnan in Us Weekly’s exclusive sneak peek at the Sunday, January 11, episode. “What would we have been playing?”
Janelle confesses, “I don’t know what ‘girl games’ are. I know Meri and I were not doing anything other than trying to just get the project done.”
The “girl games” quip refers to earlier in the season when Janelle and Meri, 54, met with their ex Kody Brown and his wife, Robyn, 47, to finalize the sale of their joint property, Coyote Pass.
During the meetup, Kody, 56, and Robyn barely acknowledged Meri and Janelle as they stood together facing their ex-husband and Robyn. Janelle spoke with their real estate agent directly, and Kody only addressed the man to say “thank you” after the documents were signed.
Kody and Robyn then left the meeting without talking to Janelle or Meri. Kody later claimed in a November 2025 confessional that “Robyn hates girl games.”
He then alleged that his spouse, whom he legally wed in 2014 after four years in a spiritual union, “reads nuance way different than me.”
Robyn, for her part, told the cameras at the time, “I don’t really endorse fakeness. And like, ‘OK, let’s pretend like everything’s OK,’ when it’s not.”
Looking back at the awkward encounter, Janelle tells Krishnan, “I think Kody puts a lot of store in the nuance that Robyn reads, but I’m not sure her nuance reading is always accurate. In fact, I know it’s not.”
Krishnan then asks whether it is more like “sister wives games” where Kody’s exes are “kind of taking a jab at each other?”
Janelle denies that’s the case, responding, “No, I don’t know.”
When the reunion host brings up the fact that Janelle called Robyn “submissive” while venting to Meri during a Zoom call earlier in the season, Janelle just laughs. (Janelle and Meri joked during an October 2025 episode that Kody’s “type” is “submissive,” referring to Robyn.)
“He walked himself into that. I had to just have his ex-wives’ club for a minute with Mer because I thought it was really pretty funny,” Janelle explains in the preview.
“OK, so I’m assuming that name-calling equals girl games,” Krishnan responds, but Janelle doesn’t exactly agree.
Janelle – who split from Kody in 2022 after nearly 30 years of marriage – points out that her ex has “definitely” called her “lots of things in this negotiation,” wondering, “Is that a girl game?”
“If he calls me names or he makes fun of me, like, and says things … maybe he’s playing girl games too? I don’t know,” Janelle concludes.
Later in the preview for the 1-on-1 special, Meri and her best friend Jen also weigh in on whether Robyn is “submissive” to Kody after his three other wives left him back-to-back.
In addition to Janelle leaving Kody in 2022, Meri announced her split from Kody in 2023 after being together more than 30 years. Kody’s third wife, Christine Brown, was the first to leave their plural family in 2021.
“I feel like that works for Kody. That’s what he wants. ‘Follow the rules, do what I say, don’t get out of line,'” Jen says in the upcoming tell-all episode. “I’m sure that there’s times where she pushes back or stands up for herself. I’m sure there is. But ultimately he wants [her to be] submissive. He wants somebody who’s just going to, like, kowtow to him.”
Meri is in complete agreement with her friend, telling Krishnan that Kody “doesn’t want somebody to, you know, stand up and fight.”
