“I hate when I get judged for how I raise my kids,” she shared
Christine Brown’s daughter Mykelti is opening up about being “mom-shamed” after giving her three kids iPads.
In a video shared to Instagram on Thursday, Jan. 8, Mykelti, 29, opened up about the judgement she received after handing her kids — daughter Avalon Asa and twin sons Archer and Ace — iPads during a four-hour road trip with her husband, Tony Padron.
“I hate when I get judged for how I raise my kids,” she began the candid video, speaking directly to the camera. “I got some serious hate comments recently. I actually got hate DMs, massive amounts of them. A lot. And it’s because I gave my kids iPads.”
According to Mykelti, the family of five was on their way to visit Ysabel, the second-youngest of Christine and Kody Brown’s six kids, when she decided to give her children the tablets.
“I had my Kindle, I had my phone. I was scrolling. Tony had his podcast he was listening to. We were entertained,” she explained. “I gave my kids iPads so that they could be entertained as well. They could enjoy the drive.”
“It’s four hours. They’re fine,” she continued. “But I got a lot of comments, even though, I feel like as adults, that’s exactly what we do — we get on our phones while we drive. You know, I’m a straight-up passenger princess.”
“I don’t like that we get judged so hard as a mom for trying to entertain my kids,” she finished, adding in the caption: “Cut Mom Shaming in 2026.”
Many commenters underneath her post were supportive, and shared that they used similar rules about tablet use while on the road.
“iPads all day long, not playing outside, etc. is bad. Using iPads to watch a show or play while on a long drive is totally ok! 👍🏼,” one person wrote.
“Your kids your business!!❤️ it’s easy to judge from behind a screen,” another commenter chimed in.
“They are your babies, you don’t need to justify your parenting decisions,” another wrote.
After living in Utah for much of her life, Mykelti announced on Instagram in July 2024 that her family had moved to Charlotte, North Carolina.
In the comments on the post, the reality star confirmed they made the transition to be close to her younger sister, Ysabel, who relocated to the area in 2021.
During an episode of Sister Wives in October, Christine implied that her daughter’s strained relationship with her dad, Kody, was ultimately the reason why she decided to move out of Utah and made the cross-country move — though her daughter has shared that they also wanted to move to North Carolina for her husband’s professional chess career.

“I know part of the reason they’re leaving is, [Mykelti] is just exhausted from trying so hard to get everybody back together again,” Christine said in a confessional clip, likely referring to the aftermath of the Brown family’s plural marriage falling apart over the last few years.
“Mykelti tried so hard to get the whole family back together again. She really wanted to,” Christine continued.
